I make functional, small-batch pottery with a modern aesthetic. My forms are traditional in shape but highly decorative, utilizing underglaze and slip techniques to add texture and images to the surface of the pots. I also create sculptures from repurposed plaster casts that have traditionally been utilized in the production of porcelain dolls. In addition, I create cut paper and digital collages and paintings.

Highland Pottery

functional and sculptural pottery and clay wall art

I throw and hand build my pieces and often combine the two methods to create my functional pottery, clay sculpture and clay wall art. My work highlights the malleable qualities of clay by emphasizing texture and form.

Design Sculptural & Useful Ceramic items

I am a "becoming" Potter exploring my creativity building sculptural items that are useful and decorative. My first clay pot was one I made in Elementary School and then in Girl Scouting. While in Architectural School, pottery as a medium, was an opportunity to be creative and develop the skills of a potter and sculptor, it was my first time using the pottery wheel. Post College I took classes, most recently at Mighty Mud over the last 5 or 6 years. Currently I continue learning and experimenting in my Craft and enjoy the creative environment of the Pottery Studio.

Handbuilt pottery

My pottery is influenced by My love of nature and vintage items. I often texturize leather hard clay by pressing real leaves or doilies into the clay. My latest and most popular venture is my Hiker Mugs on which I draw a customized hiker onto a carved mountain scene. I hand build my mugs and most other items lending unique characteristics that aren’t seen in wheel thrown pottery.

Farmhouse Pottery

I create heirloom ceramics with a farmhouse aesthetic that are meant to last for generations but are for everyday use. My pottery uses a monochromatic, neutral color palette and focuses on subtle differences in texture on various clay bodies. The pottery wheel is my main mode of production, but I utilize a combination of hand-building and wheel throw clay. My customer loves to cook and chooses objects for the home based on nurturing aesthetic sensibilities whether you're looking for a hostess gift, starter sets for a bride and groom, a vase for wild flowers, or pieces for your own home.
